Timothy hay has a high fiber content, good for teeth and digestion. It also has a favorable calcium-phosphorus ratio. Timothy hay therefore fits into a balanced diet.
Most hay types are alfalfa-based and contain a fair amount of calcium. In terms of composition, Timothy hay is most suitable for rabbits and rodents. Timothy hay has a high fiber content (32%) and a low calcium content (approximately 0.5%). This favorable calcium-phosphorus ratio prevents bladder problems in guinea pigs and rabbits, among other things.
